LITHIC STRUCTURES
by Timothée Ryan
2025
Stone as revelation of our planetary surface.
Formed over epoches, eras, ages.
A composition over time, an archive of minerals, a library of lifeforms.
Abundant, available, local.
A guardian to the wind and to the rain.
A hardened host of fire, of warmth.
An opportunity for shelter.
An enduring resistance to the gravitas of our Earth.
Heavy, durable, structured, structural.
An archaic material of simple solutions and complex craft.
Infinitely variable, inherently reflective of its composition, its ecology, its history.
Protective, yet porous, welcoming growth upon its surfaces.
Permissive of dissassembly, deconstruction, decomposition.
Born in the kilns of stars, yet one day weathered into soils, into beings.
