TEXT

La Grange, a derelict barn, becomes the dormitory for extended visitors. Whether present for ecological or spiritual retreats, up to a dozen residents may reside in this barn, having once been used for the storage of straw bales and agricultural equipment.

Honoring the large central opening, the design establishes itself around a central hearth. Whether looking out onto the permacultural fields during the summer or embracing a warm fire during the harsher winters, the central ground is reserved for gathering. The eastern ground hosts an open cooking space for gastronomic explorations of the farm’s produce with a central opening introduced into the dawn-facing facade. In the quieter corners of the barn, rooms with various qualities present private nooks of withdrawal and rest.
