TEXT

The old pig sty pays homage to its original condition, drawing inspiration from the buildings’ history to create several adjoined ateliers with different usages. On the ground floor, beautifully-poured concrete bays with integrated feeding troughs held the animals while the upper floor was reserved for the storage of animal feed and litter. Four of the six bays were preserved to create distinct artist studios, for painting, weaving, and sculpting with natural materials from the site. The last two bays were amalgamated with the entry into one large space, with an expanded window that welcomes the southern sunlight for a botanical atelier. Situated at the epicenter of the property, this space is used for growing seedlings and storing the garden tools used across the various planting projects on site.

On the top floor, an entirely different program was accomodated in the old hay loft, an atelier of the soul. With its own private entrance, a personal meditation space was created that doubles as a private therapy room. Bisected with two powerful openings on the North-South axis, indivudal patients can be seen and treated in the sun rays that pierces through the slate roof. With a special focus on sound healing, the wooden interior was conceived as an edificial instrument, built using natural spruce boards.
